The Marauders football team made it to the 5A-division II state championships in 1995 and 1997, winning in 1997. Every year, Marcus has two rivalries in football. "The Mound Showdown" is the game against Flower Mound High School, and is a new rivalry since the opening of Flower Mound High School in 1999. The 2005-2006 school year was the first time that the game was played in Texas Stadium. The second rivalry is "The Battle of the Axe", played against Lewisville High School. This rivalry is the more historic of the two, and the main rivalry, dating back to when Marcus and Lewisville were the only two Class 5A high schools in the Lewisville Independent School District (LISD). When Marcus opened, The Colony High School also opened but was in Class 4A. Marcus Ice Hockey, not UIL sponsored, won the State Championship in 2005-2006, and a City Championship in 2009-2010.

Marcus Boys, won the Texas UIL Conference 5A State Basketball championship in March 2011 by defeating Garland Lakeview Centennial High School, 40-38 in Austin, Texas. Coach Danny Henderson was named the Dallas Morning News Area Coach of the Year and Marcus Smart was named the Texas Gatorade Player of the Year.

The girls soccer team won the Texas state championships in 2005. The boys soccer team capped off a perfect 30–0 season by winning the 2007 5A state title defeating Plano West, 3–2. Marcus won its second straight Texas Class 5A State Championship defeating Klein 3-0 in 2008.
