Famous quotes containing the words edward, peter and/or cullen:

Is a civilization naturally backward because it is different? Outside of cannibalism, which can be matched in this country, at least, by lynching, there is no vice and no degradation in native African customs which can begin to touch the horrors thrust upon them by white masters. —W.E.B. (William Edward Burghardt)

Among them was a Bishop, who
    Had lately been appointed to
    The balmy isle of Rum-ti-Foo,
    And Peter was his name.
    Sir William Schwenck Gilbert (1836–1911)

Admire and hate thy blooming years.
    —William Cullen Bryant (1794–1878)
