Edward Boscawen - Frances Evelyn Boscawen

Frances Evelyn Boscawen

In 1742 Boscawen married Frances Evelyn Glanville (1719–1805), with whom he had three sons and two daughters. The youngest son, George succeeded his uncle as third Viscount Falmouth. She was predeceased by her eldest son Edward Hugh in 1774 and her elder daughter, Frances Leveson-Gower, in 1801. She died in London in 1805.

After Boscawen's death, Frances became an important hostess of Bluestocking meetings. Her guests included Elizabeth Montagu, Dr Johnson, James Boswell, Joshua Reynolds, Frances Reynolds, Elizabeth Carter, and later Hannah More. She "was widely known in literary London as a model letter writer and conversationalist, prized for her wit, elegance, and warm heart," according to a present-day scholar.

I had said to Mrs. Boscawen at table, “I believe this is about as much as can be made of life.” I was really happy. My gay ideas of London in youth were realized and consolidated.
