Edinburgh Zoo participate in two levels of breeding programmes in association with EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria):
- EEP: European Endangered species Programme
- ESB: European StudBook
The Zoo holds the studbook for the following animals:
- Gentoo penguin
- King penguin
- Diana monkey
- L’Hoests monkey
- Hamlyns monkey
- Pallas cat
- European otter
- Warthog
- Central Chinese goral
