Edinburgh Zoo participate in two levels of breeding programmes in association with EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria):

  • EEP: European Endangered species Programme
  • ESB: European StudBook

The Zoo holds the studbook for the following animals:

  • Gentoo penguin
  • King penguin
  • Diana monkey
  • L’Hoests monkey
  • Hamlyns monkey
  • Pallas cat
  • European otter
  • Warthog
  • Central Chinese goral
