Edgemont Village - Community Hub

Community Hub

Edgemont Village is the centre of day-to-day life for area residents. TransLink bus routes 232 (from Phibbs Exchange) and 246 (from downtown Vancouver or Park Royal in West Vancouver) pass through the Village, and there are over seventy businesses, including a variety of shops and restaurants as well as offices for doctors, dentists, and other professional services. Due to local zoning, most businesses tend to be smaller operations. There are no "big box" outlets, and the majority of the businesses are locally owned and operated. However, the "heart" of the Village lies in the community services: the library, community police office, and the regular community events on Village streets. Throughout the summer, there are frequent public concerts, community days, and celebrations, including the "Wild Lights Lantern Festival" in August, presented by the North Vancouver Community Arts Council in conjunction with the Public Dreams Society as well as the annual harvest festival every September.

Famous quotes containing the words community and/or hub:

He thought that, because the community represents millions of people, therefore it must be millions of times more important than the individual, forgetting that the community is an abstraction from the many, and is not the many themselves.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

When I was growing up I used to think that the best thing about coming from Des Moines was that it meant you didn’t come from anywhere else in Iowa. By Iowa standards, Des Moines is a mecca of cosmopolitanism, a dynamic hub of wealth and education, where people wear three-piece suits and dark socks, often simultaneously.
    Bill Bryson (b. 1951)
