Initial Idea
Echo Island began broadcasting in 1994 with two episodes a week. This was extended to four episodes the following year with two of these being Irish language editions. The series ran for six seasons and was similar in format to the BBC's Blue Peter In later years it proved a useful showcase for some of the best young rock bands in Ireland. Many of the presenters were chosen as they were bilingual, including Dara Ó Briain.
The show was replaced by a similar format show called Sting, however this show did not air in the Irish language (as by that stage TG4 was providing an Irish language children's service). Sting also split up each day with a different topic such as Gaming, Sports and other types of activities and did away with "Make and Do" and "Pet" sections of Echo Island.

Famous quotes containing the words initial and/or idea:
“For those parents from lower-class and minority communities ... [who] have had minimal experience in negotiating dominant, external institutions or have had negative and hostile contact with social service agencies, their initial approaches to the school are often overwhelming and difficult. Not only does the school feel like an alien environment with incomprehensible norms and structures, but the families often do not feel entitled to make demands or force disagreements.”
—Sara Lawrence Lightfoot (20th century)
“... if theres a house, then there is a wall ... between them and the outside world. The ideal is to stay inside and to never have to go out, and the whole idea of staying home is really important. I think men do get out, but it is not glamorized the way it is here in America, where the big story is to ride out and go someplace and to travel.”
—Gish Jen (b. 1956)
