Ebony Blade - Powers and Abilities

Powers and Abilities

The Ebony Blade was an extremely powerful enchanted weapon. It was said to be indestructible, and nothing in the comics to date has disproven that statement. It also had many mystical or quasi-mystical capabilities, including the ability to:

  • cut through virtually any physical substance except other enchanted weapons or extremely strong metals like adamantium, even to the point that it has been shown capable of breaking through Iron Man's Extremis armor with one slash
  • cut through mystical barriers
  • deflect energy when angled correctly
  • absorb all forms of energy, even the Promethean Flame

Surprisingly, Dane Whitman discovered most of these abilities through scientific testing of the Blade.

Additionally, the Blade bonded to its wielder in such a way that the wielder could summon it back to himself or herself using a mystical ceremony if it were ever lost, even if it was in a different time period.

The Blade formerly rendered its wielder invulnerable to everything except another weapon carved from the same meteor, such as the Ebony Dagger.

Other notable wielders of the Blade include Whitman's ancestors Sir Percy of Scandia and Eobar Garrington, Valkyrie, and Marvel's version of Ares.

Famous quotes containing the words powers and/or abilities:

Great abilites are not requisite for an Historian; for in historical composition, all the greatest powers of the human mind are quiescent. He has facts ready to his hand; so there is no exercise of invention. Imagination is not required in any degree; only about as much as is used in the lowest kinds of poetry. Some penetration, accuracy, and colouring, will fit a man for the task, if he can give the application which is necessary.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

Who can measure the advantages that would result if the magnificent abilities of these women could be devoted to the needs of government, society and home, instead of being consumed in the struggle to obtain their birthright of individual freedom? Until this be gained we can never know, we can not even prophesy the capacity and power of women for the uplifting of humanity.
    Susan B. Anthony (1820–1906)
