Eau de Vie - Serving

Serving

Serving preferences vary. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Serving size: An eau de vie is usually served as a digestif. The typical serving size is 30 to 60 ml (1.1 to 2.1 imp fl oz; 1.0 to 2.0 US fl oz), owing to the high alcohol content of the spirit and because it is typically drunk after a meal during which wine, or some other alcoholic beverage, has already been served.
  • Glassware: Some connoisseurs recommend a tulip-shaped glass; others recommend a snifter.

Famous quotes containing the word serving:

    I tell people all the time, you have to be in love with that pot. You have to put all your love in that pot. If you’re in a hurry, just eat your sandwich and go. Don’t even start cooking, because you can’t do anything well in a hurry. I love food. I love serving people. I love satisfying people.
    Leah Chase (b. 1923)

    The man, or the boy, in his development is psychologically deterred from incorporating serving characteristics by an easily observable fact: there are already people around who are clearly meant to serve and they are girls and women. To perform the activities these people are doing is to risk being, and being thought of, and thinking of oneself, as a woman. This has been made a terrifying prospect and has been made to constitute a major threat to masculine identity.
    Jean Baker Miller (20th century)

    With serving still
    This have I won,
    For my goodwill
    To be undone;
    Sir Thomas Wyatt (1503?–1542)
