The Eastern Military Command is one of seven Military Commands of the Brazilian Army. The Eastern Military Command or "Comando Militar do Leste" (CML) is responsible for the defence of the states Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. A Parachutist Brigade (the Brigada de Infantaria Pára-quedista) and two Motorized Infantry Brigades are assigned to the 1st Army Division, which is the CMLs manoeuvre unit. Famous quotes containing the words eastern, military and/or command:

All the morning we had heard the sea roar on the eastern shore, which was several miles distant.... It was a very inspiriting sound to walk by, filling the whole air, that of the sea dashing against the land, heard several miles inland. Instead of having a dog to growl before your door, to have an Atlantic Ocean to growl for a whole Cape!
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Personal prudence, even when dictated by quite other than selfish considerations, surely is no special virtue in a military man; while an excessive love of glory, impassioning a less burning impulse, the honest sense of duty, is the first.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)

Universal empire is the prerogative of a writer. His concerns are with all mankind, and though he cannot command their obedience, he can assign them their duty. The Republic of Letters is more ancient than monarchy, and of far higher character in the world than the vassal court of Britain.
    Thomas Paine (1737–1809)
