The Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center, which also brands itself as the East Kentucky Expo Center, is a multi-purpose arena in Pikeville, Kentucky. Opened in October 2005, it hosts various local concerts and sporting events for the area. The facility, which can seat 7,000 for concerts and 5,700 for sporting events, is owned by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and managed by SMG.
The arena is currently home to the East Kentucky Energy of the American Basketball Association and in spring 2011 will be home to the Eastern Kentucky Drillers of the Ultimate Indoor Football League. It also plays host to the 15th Region KHSAA boys and girls high school basketball tournaments.
It was reported in mid February that TNA Wrestling would be taping its weekly TNA iMPACT! broadcast in the arena on April 1, 2011—which would be only the third time in its history that the show would be broadcasted outside of Universal Studio's iMPACT! zone in Orlando, Florida.
Famous quotes containing the words eastern, kentucky and/or center:
“From this elevation, just on the skirts of the clouds, we could overlook the country, west and south, for a hundred miles. There it was, the State of Maine, which we had seen on the map, but not much like that, immeasurable forest for the sun to shine on, the eastern stuff we hear of in Massachusetts. No clearing, no house. It did not look as if a solitary traveler had cut so much as a walking-stick there.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“He believes without reservation that Kentucky is the garden spot of the world, and is ready to dispute with anyone who questions his claim. In his enthusiasm for his State he compares with the Methodist preacher whom Timothy Flint heard tell a congregation that Heaven is a Kentucky of a place.”
—For the State of Kentucky, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“I think that New York is not the cultural center of America, but the business and administrative center of American culture.”
—Saul Bellow (b. 1915)
