Eastern Georgia commonly refers to the eastern part of the nation of Georgia, which in historic times included the kingdom of Iberia in the Caucasus. The present-day term refers to the territory of Georgia which lies to the east and south of the Likhi and Meskheti Ranges, but excludes the region of Ajaria. Eastern Georgia includes the historic Georgian provinces of Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kartli, Kakheti, Pshavi, Mtiuleti, Tusheti, Khevsureti, Khevi as well as the capital city of Tbilisi.
