Surrounding Neighborhoods and Info

Homewood North (Pittsburgh), Homewood South (Pittsburgh), Wilkinsburg, Penn Hills. East Hills is home to the Imani Christian Academy which is based in the former East Hills Elementary school building. East Hills was once home to a flourishing shopping center that was the farthest point for citizens of Pittsburgh's East End to shop and work. However Due to crime and other issues the Shopping center went into decline in the 80's and utterly vanished by the turn of the 21st century. The entire shopping center is now empty and overrun with weeds and debris. The neighborhood of East Hills also had a reputation of being one of the worst neighborhoods in the city in the 90's and a large murder and drug rate did not help matters. However recently the neighborhood has gone under a metamorphosis of change and progress and the neighborhood is now a quiet and peaceful low income neighborhood on Pittsburgh's East End.

Famous quotes containing the word surrounding:

Every winter the liquid and trembling surface of the pond, which was so sensitive to every breath, and reflected every light and shadow, becomes solid to the depth of a foot or a foot and a half, so that it will support the heaviest teams, and perchance the snow covers it to an equal depth, and it is not to be distinguished from any level field. Like the marmots in the surrounding hills, it closes its eyelids and becomes dormant for three months or more.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
