Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial - Design Competition

Design Competition

The Eisenhower Memorial Commission (EMC) contracted for professional architectural and engineering design services through the General Services Administration (GSA). The Commission chose to run the competition according to GSA's Design Excellence Program, which was created to hire architects for federal office buildings and courthouses.

On March 31, 2009, architect Frank Gehry was announced as the lead designer of the Eisenhower Memorial after a closed competition that solicited 44 entries.

Famous quotes containing the words design and/or competition:

To nourish children and raise them against odds is in any time, any place, more valuable than to fix bolts in cars or design nuclear weapons.
    Marilyn French (20th century)

The elements of success in this business do not differ from the elements of success in any other. Competition is keen and bitter. Advertising is as large an element as in any other business, and since the usual avenues of successful exploitation are closed to the profession, the adage that the best advertisement is a pleased customer is doubly true for this business.
