Durham School - History

History

The history of Durham School can be divided into three sections. Firstly there is the time from its founding by Langley in 1414, then in 1541 Henry VIII refounded it and finally in 1844 the school moved from its site on Palace Green to its current location. The school is often referred to in histories and the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography as "Durham Grammar School".

Famous quotes containing the word history:

When the history of guilt is written, parents who refuse their children money will be right up there in the Top Ten.
    Erma Brombeck (20th century)

Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we called it the word of a demon than the Word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind.
    Thomas Paine (1737–1809)

The history of every country begins in the heart of a man or a woman.
    Willa Cather (1876–1947)
