Dunsmuir, California - Rail and Bus Transportation

Rail and Bus Transportation

Amtrak's Coast Starlight stops daily in both directions at the Dunsmuir Amtrak station, located on one of Dunsmuir's two commercial streets, both in the historic district. The County bus service "The Stage" from Dunsmuir north through the County (Mt. Shasta, Weed, Yreka, etc.) connects to Amtrak. The Amtrak station is well maintained by city residents and local rail enthusiasts, boasting a nice museum and a clean modern station with telephones, restrooms, and a pleasant respite from the weather. The town itself is a railroad museum with an operating turntable. Dunsmuir is the only station stop in Siskiyou County, located at a midpoint between Redding, CA and Klamath Falls, OR, and is the northern most Amtrak station in California.

Famous quotes containing the words rail and, rail and/or bus:

“Old man, it’s four flights up and for what?
Your room is hardly any bigger than your bed.
Puffing as you climb, you are a brown woodcut
stooped over the thin rail and the wornout tread.”
    —Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

“If goodness were only a theory, it were a pity it should be lost to the world. There are a number of things, the idea of which is a clear gain to the mind. Let people, for instance, rail at friendship, genius, freedom, as long as they will—the very names of these despised qualities are better than anything else that could be substituted for them, and embalm even the most envenomed satire against them.”
    —William Hazlitt (1778–1830)

“Literature transforms and intensifies ordinary language, deviates systematically from everyday speech. If you approach me at a bus stop and murmur “Thou still unravished bride of quietness,” then I am instantly aware that I am in the presence of the literary.”
    —Terry Eagleton (b. 1943)
