With the making of the Winding Up Order, the station's licence passed into the hands of the Official Receiver. Ofcom ordered the station to cease broadcasting by 2 August 2012, a deadline which was ignored by Dune's owner. On 8 August, Ofcom engineers attended the transmitter site at Gaws Hill, Ormskirk, accompanied by Dune's transmission contractor, and removed the transmission equipment. The station left the air at 12.23.

Famous quotes containing the word close:

The gothic is singular in this; one seems easily at home in the renaissance; one is not too strange in the Byzantine; as for the Roman, it is ourselves; and we could walk blindfolded through every chink and cranny of the Greek mind; all these styles seem modern when we come close to them; but the gothic gets away.
    Henry Brooks Adams (1838–1918)

Thatcher: Now tell me honestly, my boy. Don’t you think it’s rather unwise to continue this philanthropic enterprise, this Inquirer that’s costing you a million dollars a year?
Charles Foster Kane: You’re right, Mr. Thatcher. I did lose a million dollars last year. I expect to lose a million dollars next year. You know, Mr. Thatcher, at the rate of a million dollars a year, I’ll have to close this place in sixty years.
    Orson Welles (1915–1985)
