Dundela F.C. - History

History

The Dundela Football Club was formed in 1895 from employees of a local dairy owned by the Agnew family and members of a local harriers' club. Its greatest achievement to date came in April 1955, when it defeated the mighty Glenavon by three goals to nil at Windsor Park, Belfast in the final of the Irish Cup. Dundela's darkest hour occurred on August 25, 1995, when team captain, Michael Goddard died during a game at Stangmore Park, home of Dungannon Swifts, after being struck on the chest with the ball. The club's latest success was a Steel & Sons Cup win in December 2007. Dundela's local rivals are Harland & Wolff Welders F.C..

Famous quotes containing the word history:

All objects, all phases of culture are alive. They have voices. They speak of their history and interrelatedness. And they are all talking at once!
    Camille Paglia (b. 1947)

... that there is no other way,
That the history of creation proceeds according to
    Stringent laws, and that things
Do get done in this way, but never the things
We set out to accomplish and wanted so desperately
    To see come into being.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

The history of a soldier’s wound beguiles the pain of it.
    Laurence Sterne (1713–1768)
