Scene

A westbound train, Passenger Extra 6001 West, a seasonal excursion service carrying vacationers from the Minaki region of Northwestern Ontario, had been given orders at Malachi, Ontario, 100 miles (160 km) east of Winnipeg to meet Canadian National Railways train No. 4, the eastbound Continental Limited at Vivian. Famous quotes containing the word scene:

Winter lies too long in country towns; hangs on until it is stale and shabby, old and sullen. On the farm the weather was the great fact, and men’s affairs went on underneath it, as the streams creep under the ice. But in Black Hawk the scene of human life was spread out shrunken and pinched, frozen down to the bare stalk.
    Willa Cather (1873–1947)

    Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness, and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans every thing.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

[Your letters] serve like gleams of light, to cheer a dreary scene where envy, hatred, malice, revenge, and all the worse passions of men are marshalled to make one another as miserable as possible.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)
