Dream Street (Janet Jackson Album)

Dream Street (Janet Jackson Album)

Dream Street is the second studio album by American recording artist Janet Jackson, released on October 23, 1984 (see 1984 in music).

More pop than her debut album's "bubblegum soul" feel, the album wasn't the runaway success that Janet's father Joseph thought it would be, peaking at number one hundred forty-seven on the Billboard 200 in 1984. Today, this is Jackson's rarest album and is much sought after by fans, though it is still available as an expensive Japanese import. The album did have one modest hit for Jackson, the top ten R&B single, "Don't Stand Another Chance", produced by brother Marlon. Also, the video for the song "Dream Street", her first music video, was shot during the shooting of the TV show Fame.

This would be the last of Jackson's pre-stardom albums. She would break out of her squeaky-clean sounds with her Control album in 1986.

After many years of being unavailable, the album was made available to iTunes on May 15, 2007. Physical copies of the album are out of print, thus very rare, and especially hard to find in the United States.

Famous quotes containing the words dream, street and/or jackson:

Since it is impossible to know what’s really happening, we Peruvians lie, invent, dream and take refuge in illusion. Because of these strange circumstances, Peruvian life, a life in which so few actually do read, has become literary.
    Mario Vargas Llosa (b. 1936)

The street is full of humiliations to the proud.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Although I could lament in the language and feelings of David for Absalom, I am constrained to say, peace to his manes. Let us weep for the living, and not for the dead.
    —Andrew Jackson (1767–1845)
