The Dr Tom Dooley Fund was started in Ireland in 1961 in tribute to the work of the humanitarian Dr. Tom Dooley. It continues his work for sick people in the Developing World.
The fund is based in Dublin and is intentionally small. It is maintained by a large number of people who can provide only a little of their time but who are eager to give that time for the benefit of those who (in Dr Dooley's own words) "just ain't got it so good". Dr Dooley had a favourite word "constancy", and that idea is reflected in the commitment of people to the fund over many years.
Famous quotes containing the word fund:
“I am advised that there is an unexpended balance of about $45,000 of the fund appropriated for the relief of the sufferers by flood upon the Mississippi River and its tributaries, and I recommend that authority be given to use this fund to meet the most urgent necessities of the poorer people in Oklahoma.”
