Film Adaptation
In 2012, BBC News announced that Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall is penning a script for a film adaptation of Down and Out. "It's a very timely book because it's about people in the midst of a depression," Hall said. The film will be shot by director Kevin Macdonald, who made The Last King Of Scotland and State of Play.

Famous quotes containing the words film and/or adaptation:
“The motion picture is like a picture of a lady in a half- piece bathing suit. If she wore a few more clothes, you might be intrigued. If she wore no clothes at all, you might be shocked. But the way it is, you are occupied with noticing that her knees are too bony and that her toenails are too large. The modern film tries too hard to be real. Its techniques of illusion are so perfect that it requires no contribution from the audience but a mouthful of popcorn.”
—Raymond Chandler (18881959)
“The real security of Christianity is to be found in its benevolent morality, in its exquisite adaptation to the human heart, in the facility with which its scheme accommodates itself to the capacity of every human intellect, in the consolation which it bears to the house of mourning, in the light with which it brightens the great mystery of the grave.”
—Thomas Babington Macaulay (18001859)
