Operators

A total of 20 DC-8 aircraft (all variants) were in commercial service as of August 2012 with the following operators:

  • Air Transport International (10)
  • Transair Cargo (3)
  • National Airlines (N8) (2)
  • Astar Air Cargo (1)
  • Expo Aviation (1)
  • Stars Away Aviation (1)

DC-8 aircraft taken out of service in 2012:

  • Astar Air Cargo: 7 Following the termination of a contract with DHL on June 1, 2012, Astar Air Cargo was shut down. Seven of the eight remaining DC-8 were put on storage the following day with one aircraft possibly flying on governmental contracts.
  • BETA Cargo: 1 Following the loss of flight license on July 10, 2012 the remaining DC-8 and Boeing 707 were put on storage

The DC-8 is no longer used by military organizations as of 2008. The DC-8 is in use by NASA as an Airborne Laboratory.
