Donald Mackenzie (explorer) - Early Life

Early Life

Born in Scotland, Mackenzie emigrated to Canada about 1800. He is related to several other distinguished MacKenzies in Canadian history. He and two or three of his brothers became involved in the fur trade and were engaged with the North West Company. In 1810, he left the employ of the North West Company to become a partner in the Pacific Fur Company, financed principally by John Jacob Astor.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the alms-house as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its door as early in the spring. I do not see but a quiet mind may live as contentedly there, and have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it.
    Bible: New Testament, Mark 8:34,5.

    Jesus.
