Donald Crisp - Military Career

Military Career

While pursuing a dual career in acting and directing, Crisp managed to serve in the war effort against Germany and her allies during the First World War (1914–1918). Between working for Griffith, other producers and his many acting roles, Crisp managed to return to Britain where he served in the army intelligence section. During the Second World War (1939–1945), Crisp again answered the call to duty at a time when his acting career was at its peak. This time, he served in U.S. Army Reserve, where he rose to the rank of colonel.

Famous quotes containing the words military career, military and/or career:

The domestic career is no more natural to all women than the military career is natural to all men.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

The military and the clergy cause us much annoyance; the clergy and the military, they empty our wallets and rob our intelligence.
    Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)

It is a great many years since at the outset of my career I had to think seriously what life had to offer that was worth having. I came to the conclusion that the chief good for me was freedom to learn, think, and say what I pleased, when I pleased. I have acted on that conviction... and though strongly, and perhaps wisely, warned that I should probably come to grief, I am entirely satisfied with the results of the line of action I have adopted.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)
