Dmitri Young - Minor Leagues

Minor Leagues

Young was a first round draft pick (number four overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1991 June amateur draft. In 1995, Young punched a fan who had been heckling him, which earned him a suspension from the Texas League. Finally, in 1996, he had a big year at Triple-A Louisville, batting .333, being chosen as a Triple-A All-Star first baseman and the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Player of the Year. He was called up at the end of the season and played a few games with St. Louis in the majors.

Famous quotes containing the words minor and/or leagues:

There are acacias, a graceful species amusingly devitalized by sentimentality, this kind drooping its leaves with the grace of a young widow bowed in controllable grief, this one obscuring them with a smooth silver as of placid tears. They please, like the minor French novelists of the eighteenth century, by suggesting a universe in which nothing cuts deep.
    Rebecca West (1892–1983)

By a knight of ghosts and shadows
    I summon’d am to a tourney
Ten leagues beyond the wide world’s end:
    Methinks it is no journey.
    —Unknown. Tom o’ Bedlam’s Song (l. 57–60)
