Firearms and Equipment

All DPG officers actively guarding premises are armed, making each and every one an Authorised Firearms Officer. In cases where the Specialist Firearms Command requests additional armed support, available DPG officers supplement the firearms unit.

In addition to the standard extendable batons and PAVA incapacitant spray issued to all officers, DPG officers are trained on Home Office approved, standard police weaponry:

  • Glock 17 pistol (standard issue sidearm)
  • Glock 26 pistol (sidearm offered to those officers with smaller hands, particularly females, and where an officer must conceal their weapon but cannot effectively conceal a Glock 17)
  • Heckler & Koch MP5 SF A2 / A3 semi-automatic carbine (standard issue long arm)

Specialist officers may carry less-lethal weaponry when deadly force is to be avoided if possible but batons and PAVA spray are too short range;

  • Taser International X26 Taser
  • Heckler & Koch L104A1 37mm Baton Gun (used to fire Rubber projectile or CS gas rounds)

Specialist officers may also carry the following in certain situations;

  • Heckler & Koch G36K SF / G36C SF semi-automatic carbine
  • Heckler & Koch G3SG/1 designated marksman rifle/sniper rifle
  • Accuracy International Arctic Warfare sniper rifle

Famous quotes containing the word equipment:

    At the heart of the educational process lies the child. No advances in policy, no acquisition of new equipment have their desired effect unless they are in harmony with the child, unless they are fundamentally acceptable to him.
