In Rugrats
Dil first debuted in The Rugrats Movie as the baby delivered after the pregnancy of Tommy's mother Didi Pickles, and Tommy's newborn baby brother. Throughout the course of this film his caretakers bear the brunt of his nonstop bawling and needs, screaming incessantly for the first few weeks after his arrival home. Because of this, the older babies were motivated to return him to the hospital; however, they wound up being stranded in the wilderness instead for a majority of the film.
Dil is commonly depicted as being curious and playful, with the typical tendency to grab out for various items that capture his attention (including jewelry, Angelica's doll Cynthia, and hair) and may strike others as being selfish, but to an innocent and unknowing extent due to his young age. Albeit Dil is incapable of speech, he's able to communicate through simple "baby talk" terminology involving the few mispronounced words he does know and his nicknames for those around him, and is strongly attached to his elder brother. Tommy cares deeply for Dil and frequently makes precautionary measures during the infants' fantasized ventures to protect his brother from harm, defending him against any hazards or Angelica.
