Technical Details
The DSC is a synchronous system using characters composed from a ten-bit error detecting code. The bits are encoded using frequency shift keying at 100 Baud. For High Frequency and Medium Frequency single side band marine radio an audio tone of 1 700 Hz ± 85 Hz is generated and passed to the modulator. For VHF the two frequencies used are 1300 and 2100 Hz. Each character is transmitted twice with a time delay. The detailed specification is published in the International Telecommunications Union recommendation ITU-R M.493-12

Famous quotes containing the words technical and/or details:
“Where there is the necessary technical skill to move mountains, there is no need for the faith that moves mountains.”
—Eric Hoffer (19021983)
“There was a time when the average reader read a novel simply for the moral he could get out of it, and however naïve that may have been, it was a good deal less naïve than some of the limited objectives he has now. Today novels are considered to be entirely concerned with the social or economic or psychological forces that they will by necessity exhibit, or with those details of daily life that are for the good novelist only means to some deeper end.”
—Flannery OConnor (19251964)
