History

In 1851, the European civil servants established the Dhaka Club on the northern corner of the racecourse as a club for British and other European people living in Dhaka. The inspiration of the club came from a Billiard club for locals located on the Antaghar Moidan (now known as Bahadur Shah Park) in Old Dhaka, which was purchased by the British as real estate.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

I believe my ardour for invention springs from his loins. I can’t say that the brassiere will ever take as great a place in history as the steamboat, but I did invent it.
    Caresse Crosby (1892–1970)

Psychology keeps trying to vindicate human nature. History keeps undermining the effort.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

In nature, all is useful, all is beautiful. It is therefore beautiful, because it is alive, moving, reproductive; it is therefore useful, because it is symmetrical and fair. Beauty will not come at the call of a legislature, nor will it repeat in England or America its history in Greece. It will come, as always, unannounced, and spring up between the feet of brave and earnest men.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
