Devon and Cornwall Police Authority
The Devon and Cornwall Police Authority is made up of nineteen members: 10 councillors, 3 justices of the peace, and 6 independent members. The councillors are nominated by a committee consisting of members from the Devon, Cornwall, Plymouth, Torbay and Isles of Scilly councils.
If the Government is successful in introducing Police Commissioners to govern police forces, then the Devon and Cornwall Police Authority will be scrapped.

Famous quotes containing the words police and/or authority:
“Scandal begins when the police put a stop to it.”
—Karl Kraus (18741936)
“Anyone who seeks for the true causes of miracles, and strives to understand natural phenomena as an intelligent being, and not to gaze at them like a fool, is set down and denounced as an impious heretic by those, whom the masses adore as the interpreters of nature and the gods. Such persons know that, with the removal of ignorance, the wonder which forms their only available means for proving and preserving their authority would vanish also.”
—Baruch (Benedict)
