Detours (song)

"Detours" is a song written and recorded by American singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow. It is featured on Crow's sixth studio album Detours. The song surprisingly charted by itself on the billboard Triple A Chart. Sheryl sang this song on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. According to Sheryl this was the first song she wrote for her album and the song deals with her successful but painful battle with breast cancer and her going through the break-up with her fiance. It's considered to be contemplative by critics. Sheryl has stated that the song is like a prayer to God, who is referred to as "Mother". The song expresses her devastation and sadness but also her deep hope -- "teach me to love" -- of getting better and facing her difficulties.
