Production
The set of Mortville was built on the grounds of two of Waters' friends in Hampstead, Maryland; it was built by art director Vincent Peranio after he and Waters went around collecting various large pieces of garbage to construct with. Queen Carlotta's castle was an exterior wall with nothing behind, built with plywood. All Mortville interiors were filmed in a rented warehouse in Baltimore.
Desperate Living was edited for ten weeks in the basement of editor Charles Roggero's home. It was Waters' first film with original music, by Chris Lobingier and Allen Yanus to provide a "cheesy Doctor Zhivago-type score".

Famous quotes containing the word production:
“The myth of unlimited production brings war in its train as inevitably as clouds announce a storm.”
—Albert Camus (19131960)
“I really know nothing more criminal, more mean, and more ridiculous than lying. It is the production either of malice, cowardice, or vanity; and generally misses of its aim in every one of these views; for lies are always detected, sooner or later.”
—Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (16941773)
“To expect to increase prices and then to maintain them at a higher level by means of a plan which must of necessity increase production while decreasing consumption is to fly in the face of an economic law as well established as any law of nature.”
—Calvin Coolidge (18721933)
