The Department of Conservation (In Māori, Te Papa Atawhai), commonly known by its acronym, "DOC", is the state sector organisation which deals with the conservation of New Zealand’s natural and historic heritage. The current Minister of Conservation in the Government is the Hon, Kate Wilkinson.

The New Zealand Conservation Authority is an advisory body to DOC and to the Minister of Conservation. There are 13 conservation boards for different geographical areas around the country that provide for interaction between DOCand the public.
