Denman Arena

Denman Arena was the main sports arena located in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia. The arena was located on Denman Street in Vancouver's West End, at the northwest corner of West Georgia Street and Denman. It was built at a cost of $300,000 in 1911 and held 10,500 people, making it one of the world's largest arenas at the time. It was one of the first two artificial ice surfaces in Canada along with the Patrick Arena in Victoria. It burned down in 1936 after an explosion at an adjacent Coal Harbour coal shed.

Famous quotes containing the word arena:

This is a Senate of equals, of men of individual honor and personal character, and of absolute independence. We know no masters, we acknowledge no dictators. This is a hall for mutual consultation and discussion; not an arena for the exhibition of champions.
    Daniel Webster (1782–1852)
