As of the 2000 census, languages spoken in the US Virgin Islands were:

- Spanish or Spanish Creole 16.8%
- French or French Creole 6.6%
- Other 1.9%
According to a 2005 estimate, 90–95% of the population aged 15 and over can read and write.
