Famous quotes containing the word poems:
“This is what poems are:
with mercy
for the greedy,
they are the tongues wrangle,
the worlds pottage, the rats star.”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
“The genuine remains of Ossian, or those ancient poems which bear his name, though of less fame and extent, are, in many respects, of the same stamp with the Iliad itself. He asserts the dignity of the bard no less than Homer, and in his era, we hear of no other priest than he.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Suppertime I float toward you
from the stewpot
holding poems you shrug off
and you kiss me like a mosquito.”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
