Causes
The causes are not yet well understood, but a genetic link with the PARK11 gene has been described. As with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, most cases of DLB appear sporadically and DLB is not thought to be a strongly hereditary disease. As with Alzheimer's, DLB risk is heightened with inheritance of the ε4 allele of the apolipoprotein E (APOE).
