Early Life
Delwin Vriend, born in Sioux Center, Iowa in 1966 to a Canadian father and American mother, moved to Edmonton, Alberta, with his parents at the age of two. The oldest of five children, he was raised with three siblings on an organic vegetable farm to the south of Edmonton in the county of Leduc. His parents were members of the local Christian Reformed Church and he attended private Christian elementary and secondary schools before enrolling at The King's College (now King's University College) in Edmonton and then transferring to Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to earn his physics and mathematics degree.
After briefly being employed as an electrician, Vriend was asked to work at The Kings College as a laboratory coordinator and chemistry lab instructor. He worked in that capacity for three years.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:
“The secret of heaven is kept from age to age. No imprudent, no sociable angel ever dropt an early syllable to answer the longings of saints, the fears of mortals. We should have listened on our knees to any favorite, who, by stricter obedience, had brought his thoughts into parallelism with the celestial currents, and could hint to human ears the scenery and circumstance of the newly parted soul.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“We are all of us resigned to death: its life we arent resigned to.”
—Graham Greene (19041991)
