Deflection (engineering) - Intermediately Loaded Beams

Intermediately Loaded Beams

The elastic deflection on a beam supported by two simple supports, loaded at a distance a from one of the supports, is given by:

where:

δ = the deflection of the beam at point of load
F = force acting on the beam
L = length of the beam between the supports
E = modulus of elasticity
I = area moment of inertia
a = the distance of the load (F) from one of the supports

Famous quotes containing the words loaded and/or beams:

    My Life had stood—a Loaded Gun—
    In Corners—till a Day
    The Owner passed—identified—

    The highway presents an interesting study of American roadside advertising. There are signs that turn like windmills; startling signs that resemble crashed airplanes; signs with glass lettering which blaze forth at night when automobile headlight beams strike them; flashing neon signs; signs painted with professional touch; signs crudely lettered and misspelled....
