Centre Loaded Beam
The elastic deflection on a beam, loaded at its centre, supported by two simple supports is given by:
where:
- δ = the deflection of the beam
- F = force acting on the centre of the beam
- L = length of the beam between the supports
- E = modulus of elasticity
- I = area moment of inertia

Famous quotes containing the words centre, loaded and/or beam:
“Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
“Now night perfumes lie upon the air,
As rests the blossom on the loaded bough;
And each deep-drawn breath is redolent
Of all the folded flowers mingled scent
That rises in confused rapture now.”
—Philip Larkin (19221986)
“What do we plant when we plant the tree?
We plant the ship that will cross the sea,
We plant the mast to carry the sails,
We plant the planks to withstand the gales
The keel, the keelson, and beam and knee
We plant the ship when we plant the tree.”
—Henry Abbey (18421911)
