Hero of The 1st War
As a hero of the first Barbary War, it was landed to Stephen Decatur to deal with the revisited pirating ways of the Barbary pirates when they again began preying on shipping in the Mediterranean. President Madison requested the support of congress to deal with the issue and on May 20, 1815 ten ships sailed from New York with Decatur leading on the USS Guerriere.
