Famous quotes containing the words tribute, grateful and/or dead:

To shoot a man because one disagrees with his interpretation of Darwin or Hegel is a sinister tribute to the supremacy of ideas in human affairs—but a tribute nevertheless.
    George Steiner (b. 1929)

The good husbands understand and offer to help. “All you have to do is ask” they say. But even helpful husbands have to be thanked, their contributions acknowledged, credit given. All those pleases and thank yous. Being grateful takes time and energy. It’s often easier to do it yourself.
    Bettina Arndt (20th century)

    a star
called Wormwood rose and flickered, shattering
bent light over the dead boiling up in the ground,
the biting yellow their corrupted lives
streaming to war, denying all our words.
    Muriel Rukeyser (1913–1980)
