David J. Lawson - Founding of Africa University

Founding of Africa University

Bishop Lawson served on the Site Selection Committee for A.U., helping to select the site at Old Mutare, Zimbabwe. In consultation with Dean (now Bishop) David K. Yemba, he wrote the Mission Statement for the University's Faculty (School) of Theology. "He probably lived and breathed Africa University for a while," said James Salley, the University's Associate Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement, upon Bishop Lawson's death. "He will be greatly missed by all of us. He was a good friend of Africa University."

Famous quotes containing the words founding, africa and/or university:

The responsible business men of this country put their shoulders to the wheel. It is in response to this universal demand that we are founding today, All-American Airways.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

“I’ll love you dear, I’ll love you
    Till China and Africa meet,
And the river jumps over the mountain
And the salmon sing in the street.
    —W.H. (Wystan Hugh)

Like dreaming, reading performs the prodigious task of carrying us off to other worlds. But reading is not dreaming because books, unlike dreams, are subject to our will: they envelop us in alternative realities only because we give them explicit permission to do so. Books are the dreams we would most like to have, and, like dreams, they have the power to change consciousness, turning sadness to laughter and anxious introspection to the relaxed contemplation of some other time and place.
