David Cummins Octagon House

The David Cummins Octagon House is an historic octagon house located at 301 Liberty Street in Conneaut, Ohio. Built in 1860, it is named for David Cummins, who founded the Cummins Canning Company in Conneaut. Because the house had an underground tunnel running from it to the nearby Conneaut Creek, it has been said that the house was a station on the Underground Railroad, but this has been questioned and it has been suggested that the tunnel belonged instead to a previous house located on the property.

On September 9, 1974, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Famous quotes containing the words david and/or house:

Thaw with his gentle persuasion is more powerful than Thor with his hammer. The one melts, the other but breaks in pieces.
    —Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Thou hast an house on high erect,
    Framed by that mighty Architect,
    With glory richly furnished,
Stands permanent though this be fled.
    Anne Bradstreet (c. 1612–1672)
