In the Star Wars universe, Darth Bane is an extremely powerful Sith Lord who lived 1,000 years before the timeline of the films. He resurrects the Sith Order after destroying what he saw as a corrupted empire, with power diluted among too many individuals, and institutes the "Rule of Two" philosophy that would aid it in taking over the galaxy 1,000 years later in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
