Traffic Officers
The tunnel has been patrolled by Highways Agency Traffic Officers, since 12 September 2009. Before then, traffic officers were appointed by the crossing operator.
Traffic officers may stop and direct traffic and, so far as is necessary for the performance of any of their duties, on the approach roads. Traffic officers must be in uniform to exercise their powers.

Famous quotes containing the words traffic and/or officers:
“Theres something about the dead silence of an office building at night. Not quite real. The traffic down below is something that didnt have anything to do with me.”
—John Paxton (19111985)
“In the weakness of one kind of authority, and in the fluctuation of all, the officers of an army will remain for some time mutinous and full of faction, until some popular general, who understands the art of conciliating the soldiery, and who possesses the true spirit of command, shall draw the eyes of all men upon himself. Armies will obey him on his personal account. There is no other way of securing military obedience in this state of things.”
—Edmund Burke (17291797)
