Danescourt Railway Station

Danescourt railway station is a railway station serving Danescourt, which is a suburban area of Cardiff, Wales.

The station is the first stop after Radyr on the City Line 3.1 miles (5 km) north of Cardiff Central. The City Line was originally a freight only line. However, in 1987, hourly passenger services began to run from Cardiff Central to Radyr.

Both of the station's two platforms are accessible for disabled passengers via ramps. The Cardiff-bound platform is accessible via a bridge, whilst the Radyr-bound platform is accessiable via a small street (Beale Close) off the main road (Danescourt Way). A footbridge links the two platforms.

Danescourt also sees some non-stop trains in both directions, and freight trains to and from Tower Colliery to and from Aberthaw Power Station.

The station has been adopted under the Arriva Trains Wales 'Adopt a Station' scheme by one of its own drivers, David Avery and his two sons Ross and Tom.

Famous quotes containing the words railway and/or station:

Her personality had an architectonic quality; I think of her when I see some of the great London railway termini, especially St. Pancras, with its soot and turrets, and she overshadowed her own daughters, whom she did not understand—my mother, who liked things to be nice; my dotty aunt. But my mother had not the strength to put even some physical distance between them, let alone keep the old monster at emotional arm’s length.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)

[T]here is no situation so deplorable ... as that of a gentlewoman in real poverty.... Birth, family, and education become misfortunes when we cannot attain some means of supporting ourselves in the station they throw us into. Our friends and former acquaintances look on it as a disgrace to own us.... If we were to attempt getting our living by any trade, people in that station would think we were endeavoring to take their bread out of their mouths.
    Sarah Fielding (1710–1768)
