Dane Sorensen - Playing Career

Playing Career

Sorensen began his career playing for the Mt Wellington club in the Auckland Rugby League competition when aged just 17. He first made the New Zealand Kiwis in 1972 and also represented New Zealand Māori. He joined the Cronulla-Sutherland club in the New South Wales Rugby League premiership in 1977 and, due to a release clause in his contract, later that year became the first New Zealander to be selected for the Kiwis while based overseas. Sorensen played for the Sharks from 1977 until 1989 except for 1984 when he spent the season with Eastern Suburbs. Sorensen played 217 games for the Sharks and has the 4th-highest number of appearances for the club.

Famous quotes containing the words playing and/or career:

Is this then a touch? quivering me to a new identity,
Flames and ether making a rush for my veins,
Treacherous tip of me reaching and crowding to help them,
My flesh and blood playing out lightning to strike what is hardly
    different from myself,
On all sides prurient provokers stiffening my limbs,
    Walt Whitman (1819–1892)

What exacerbates the strain in the working class is the absence of money to pay for services they need, economic insecurity, poor daycare, and lack of dignity and boredom in each partner’s job. What exacerbates it in upper-middle class is the instability of paid help and the enormous demands of the career system in which both partners become willing believers. But the tug between traditional and egalitarian models of marriage runs from top to bottom of the class ladder.
    Arlie Hochschild (20th century)
