The population of Dalian at the end of 2008 totaled 6.13 million. The total registered population on household was 5,833,700, with a net increase of 51,800 over the previous year, of which, non-farming population was 3,478,300, accounting for 59.6 percent; farming population 2,355,400, accounting for 40.4 percent.
