Dakshina Kannada Rationalist Association - Activities

Activities

The DKRA attempts to oppose superstition and pseudoscience in India. Often in association with other rationalist organizations in India and abroad, the DKRA has led media and educational campaigns debunking the purportedly supernatural feats of godmen. The group critiques paranormal and pseudoscientific claims including psychic surgery, inexhaustible oil lamps, materialization of holy ash, and pyrokinesis.

Working with the Indian Rationalist Association, the DKRA opposed a 2009 proposal to make yoga a compulsory subject for high school and primary school students in Mangalore.

Famous quotes containing the word activities:

...I have never known a “movement” in the theater that did not work direct and serious harm. Indeed, I have sometimes felt that the very people associated with various “uplifting” activities in the theater are people who are astoundingly lacking in idealism.
    Minnie Maddern Fiske (1865–1932)

No culture on earth outside of mid-century suburban America has ever deployed one woman per child without simultaneously assigning her such major productive activities as weaving, farming, gathering, temple maintenance, and tent-building. The reason is that full-time, one-on-one child-raising is not good for women or children.
    Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)

When mundane, lowly activities are at stake, too much insight is detrimental—far-sightedness errs in immediate concerns.
    Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)
